IELTS stands for international language testing system. It is for candidates who want to study or work overseas, where English is the primary language for communication. IELTS examination is managed by an International development program (IDP). The IELTS examination is categorized into two parts:-

  1. Academic.
  2. General Training. 

Academic Examination

IELTS of Academic Examination is for a student. And given by students who want to study overseas and want a student visa.

General Examination

The examination is conducted in 2 separate sessions. The first day tests the student’s listening, reading, and writing skills, which can go for 3 hours, with each module having a fixed timeline. The second session is held within the next 7 days which tests the students on their speaking abilities which can take up to 30 minutes. Each of the 4 modules is scored separately out of a maximum score of 9. The score denotes the proficiency level of the individual and is averaged out to give a cumulative IELTS band score.

Listening: (30 minutes)

In listening, there are four modules.

Module 1: The conversation set between two-person for socializing. 

Module 2: A monologue set in an everyday social context.

Module 3: A group conversation of up to four people set in an educational or training context.

Module 4: A monologue on an academic subject.

Reading: (60 minutes)

This section consists of reading passages in increasing difficulty order. There are a total of 40 questions to answer. The questions involve reading for gist, reading for main ideas, reading for detail, skimming, understanding logical argument, recognizing the writer’s opinions, attitudes, and purposes.

Writing: (60 minutes)

The Writing section of the IELTS Academic exam includes two sessions. Topics are of general interest and can range among varied topics. The topics are suitable for candidates entering undergraduate and postgraduate studies or seeking professional registration.

Speaking: (11-14 minutes)

The speaking section is categorized into three parts.

Part 1:

The examiner will ask you general questions about yourself, your family, interests, studies, work, etc.

Part 2:

You will be given a card that asks you to speak on a given topic. You will have 1 minute to prepare before speaking.

Part 3:

The examiner will ask you questions related to the topic given to you in part 2, allowing you to discuss the issues and ideas connected to the topic.
